"Draft Horse In Pasture With Other Breeds" Can't Post

I have a Draft horse (mare) that is in the pasture with other mares of different breeds.
Is this wise to do? I was told this draft horse could do some serious damage if it was to
kick one of the other horses in the leg ( break it in half ). One comment that was made to
me was its like putting a Mack truck in with a bunch of pickups. She is not trying to be dominate
in the herd just protects her she when a dominate mare is making trouble.

Thanks for any comments on this matter.

Hmmmmm....not sure how to reply to the comment from chowl.

To the question. It generally does not matter about mixing breeds. Stallions and mares together is generally not good unless you want babies. Horses always try to establish thier place in the herd. When that activity takes place the critters get hurt regardless. Most of the time its a nip but sometimes its worse. If you are going to throw them in a pasture it cant hurt to pull thier shoes. Also, look for the omega horse.....its the one that is at the bottom of the totem pole and is so far down that when it gets beat up on it just stands there and takes it. It is generally the horse that has been beat up on by a human too much.

Other than that remember that horses interbreed for years and they are still around.

We kept a very big draft mule in with our horses. The horses weren't getting hurt though. He was getting mounted by my warmblood all the time though. That is the dominant horse here and he takes it a little too seriously I guess. We never had anyone get hurt though.
