hypothetical/Rabies Can't Post

hypothetical
What If , , A Raccoon comes strolling into a paddock with 3 Horses in it, all have been vaccinated, he has no fear of me or the horses, its about 10 am (daylight), he has to cross a 10 acre open hay field to get here, rabies has been detected state wide, speaking strictly hypothetically, WHAT WOULD YOU DO ?

1 remove that raccoon by any means Necessary ??????

2 have the 3 horses get rabies/booster shots ( no signs of bites or cuts on the horses ) ??????????

3 get the whole barn rabies/booster shots ( another 5 horses with no signs of contact)

4 do nothing ?????????

all opinions welcome

Buck

Re: [UncleBuck] hypothetical/Rabies [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Buck,
Racoons in our area are not usually afraid of very much but I dont see them much. I sure see signs of them in the barn aisle and outside. If one came by and was not afraid of a human then I would be worried. I would probably remove it and make sure the boosters are up to date.

If its a possum I do everything I can to keep them away from the horses and anything they might eat. NEVER let a possum get into your horses feed. What they leave behind can put a horse down.

I think a horse has a better chance against a puma than it does against possum problems.

Regards,
Mark
