"WAS in the Vet's office and...." Can't Post

I was talking to a nice gal in the vet's office yesterday and we started talking about our horses(what else?) She was there picking up a bottle of SMZ's and Prednisone as her horse ended up with a severe bacterial infection due to worm infestation. They almost lost him and he has a LONG recovery ahead of him. She keeps her 2 horses at home and thought that since she only had 2 horses, that she didn't have to deworm them but once per year(with ivermectin) and used natural/holistic wormers 3X per year. My vet does NOT recommend this type of wormer and says they do NOT work. My vet recommends deworming every 8 weeks on a rotation schedule and we use the new Invermectin Gold for tapeworms once per year as the tapeworms will not show up in a fecal count. I just thought this was good info. to share.
My wishes to you all for a Merry Christmas!

I agree, I would rather feed the horses- not the worms, 8 wks is about right with my horses, plus the full rotation of 3 chemicals, 1) ivermectin/praziquantel(Equimax), 2) Pyrantel Pamoate (Exodus or Strongid) and 3) fenbendazole ( Safeguard)
The reason I use Equimax over Zimmectin Gold is: Zimmectin Gold = 1.55% ivermectin, 7.75% praziquantel
Equimax = 1.87% ivermectin, 14.03% praziquantel

Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas

Uncle Buck,
Thanks for the info on the Equimax. I will give it a try next time! I hope Santa is good to you!
