Heat Stroke in horses Can't Post

What is the consensus on treating a horse that is suffering from heat stroke? I ran across this situation this weekend and we pulled the tack off, kept water going over its legs for about 10 min, gave it a quick rinse and then put is in the shade with ice boots. Some one suggested rinsing it with running water for a longer period of time but the rest of us were afraid of ‘shock’. I did what I thought I would do if it were my horse but then I got to thinking I really dont know what the right answer is.

We work really hard at not over heating our horses so I don’t know very much about treatment.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark
