What am I thankful for? Can't Post

Let me say that I am not sure where I would post this at HBN so the first catagory seems like a logical choice.

I find it pretty darn easy to get stuck in the daily details of life so I appreciate the Holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas tha help remind me how well off I am.

So what am I thankful for?

I am thankful for:
1. cold mornings when I can see the easy breath coming from the horses as they watch me walk up the hill to the barn
2. the way our mutts cold nose gently and unexpectedly bumps my hand looking for a pat on the head while I am reading in the rocker
3. little kids that can find endless amusement in the smallest of life’s blessings such as squirrels chasing each other through the tree tops
4. the smell of the first rain of the year
5. the fact that I have not been kicked by my wife’s good horse Cliff while shoeing him.
6. an easy steady rain that keeps the well full and our garden growing
7. having my truck paid off
8. 14 great years of building wonderful memories to fill the huge empty hole left after we had to put our Belgium Sheep dog down last spring. (Darn I miss that dog….)
9. the way my wife convinces me that I am the most important thing in her life
10. the gentle warmth that I get from the fire in the wood stove on a really cold evening
11. good friends that are still good friends even though we disagree on almost every political issue
12. a good horse that can box a cow, trailer quietly for hours and forgive my mistakes while he is still 5
13. the peace and quiet of standing in the middle of a stream, flipping a fly out into the current, knowing that, even if I don’t catch any thing, its been a great day fishing.
14. the fact that there are honorable, capable, unselfish, trustworthy great men and women that are willing to step into harms way to allow me and my family to sleep peacefully at night. To those men and women of today, yesterday and tomorrow I want to say a big THANK YOU for allowing me to be thankful for all the above.

I hope all my friends a happy Thanksgiving Holiday and dont forget to say a small prayer to those who allow us that freedom.

Mark, I think you picked the right category, it's a lot of food for thought. I have so many things to be thankful for that I would hardly know where to start. One biggy is being born and raised in the U S of A. But relative to this forum, I'm thankful to have a horse that I get along with well enough to have kept for 13 years, so far, and would hate to have to switch. What makes me appreciate him so much right now, is the fact that my wife is between horses, and on the search. She's had a bunch of horses that were good in a lot of ways, but just weren't the right one. I hope she can find Mr. Right. It's not easy, and I think there's a bit of luck involved, too. Anyway, happy Thanksgiving to everyone on Horses By Net.

It has been almost a year since this post started. Some very good points were made. I guess I am especially thankful that my two nurse mare horses are over 2 and a half years old now and very healthy and growing properly. It is hard to believe they are in the 1,000 lb. area now after getting them at one month old, feeding them by hand and watching them grow into big horses.

Jim- Did your wife find the right horse for her. Hope she did.

I love Horse By Net and just wish that more horse people were exposed to it so that more topics and helpful comments could be shared. I have read Tractor By Net every day for the last 3 years and watched it grow. Hopefully, this site will be as successful in getting more members.

Happy Thanksgiving to everybody.

Bob, that was a challenging project you took on, to hand feed two foals and raise them to adult horses. It must be very rewarding to get them that far. I know it's a lot of work.
I'm still enjoying my horse - 14 years together, longer than a lot of people stay married, but my wife is still trying to get the right one. She got a nice Walker last year, but had to sell him this Summer because, of all things, his movement was making her back sore. She just found a fairly laid back Arab and is hoping for the best.
I agree with your sentiments toward this site and tractorbynet. I kind of lost interest and drifted away from horsesbynet because there didn't seem to be much interest and discussion concerning our favorite horse activity, trail riding. Our passion is pleasure riding, but we respect the commitment and work it takes for competitive and endurance riding, which some of our friends aspire to, and we love to ride informally with them. I too, read tractorbynet almost daily, and I wish more people would find and participate in this site.

Now that my barn is full of hay, my boat is out of the water till spring, and my busy season with horses is basically over, I plan on visiting more often. I do agree this is a good site, but needs more members! Maybe Muhammad could advertise again on tractorbynet like they did when this site first started. I also visit tractorbynet (UncleBuck01)

Hi folks,
I agree that there a lot of good people that visit this site and it sure would be nice if we had more friends join the forums and offer input.

On this Veterans day I want to go back to one of the things I am most thankful for....

"the fact that there are honorable, capable, unselfish, trustworthy great men and women that are willing to step into harms way to allow me and my family to sleep peacefully at night. To those men and women of today, yesterday and tomorrow I want to say a big THANK YOU for allowing me to be thankful for all the above."

It has become a habit for me that when I see someone in uniform at a diner that I pay for thier meal without them knowing. If I can quietly pay for part of thier fuel at a gas station I will. If the opportunity arises at the grocery store I give the manager a $20 to help pay for thier food. I do this not because they need the assistance but because it is something I can do beyond just shaking thier hand and thanking them.

So to Bob and the others that have served this great country..... thank you for your service and lets not forget those that are currently protecting the rest of us wherever they may be.

Regards,
Mark

Mark-

What a great way to show you care. I am sure this has created a positive attitude and lets Service personnel know that their efforts are not going unnoticed. Gives me good direction. I plan to follow your show of appreciation.
