Small Draft Horse Exercise Can't Post

Long Story...

My wife is the horse person along with my 4 year old daughter. I don't ride but I am interested in working horses. I have an opportunity to purchase a Canadian work horse. She is 16 years old and was teamed to pull a sleigh and wagon at the local museum. They try to retire their horses around 14 years. My daughter and i are somewhat attached to her - many great moments being pulled by the Canadian.

My question is (placing the horses interest first) how much time is needed to exercise her on a weekly basis? i can see her pulling a small sleigh and or wagon, moving some rock or wood around property. Winter months allow weekends only while summer months would have evenings as well as weekends for exercise.

Also, I will need training for commands etc.

Many thanks,

Lloyd

Re: [Lloyd] Small Draft Horse Exercise [In reply to] Can't Post

So, can I assume, 2-3 hours of work on the weekends minimum during the winter and the same during the summer plus several hours during the week-nights would be OK?
