Draft Horses Can't Post

Muhammad, not to be bothering you already on HBN, but how about a draft horse forum? There are lots of breeds that fall into that category. I have a Belgian myself.

Rich,

What does you Belgian do? Do you have him pull/plow or do work?

A couple times over the year I have worked a holiday event where they had Percherons pulling Santa in a sleigh. Gorgeous horses. And HUGE! Sly

I talked with the owners and one they suprised me by saying that they did not eat as much food as one would think.

I'm not into horses but there is something about draft horses that pull me. Wink Don't tell the wife or we will soon have some....

Later,
Dan

Basically, my Belgian, Rosie, does whatever she wants.Wink I got her from a rescue group when she was just 4 months old. I've done all of her training myself, and I really don't know what I'm doing. She's very good natured and sweet, and she's lead trained and responds to a bunch of voice commands, but she doesn't pull or drive yet. For that, I have to send her off to school for about a month. I've had her evaluated by a professional trainer, and he said that she will learn quickly. She gets along great with my quarter horse geldings, and although she's bigger by far, she's the baby, and they're dominant over her. We're planning on sending her to a local school this spring.

Hey,
I've got four Percherons and two Halflingers and the big ones eat quite a bit. I'm talking a square bale a day if I have them on hay.
You can't beat their temperment, though. I trust those big horses way more than the little ones. And it's not just the Halflingers. I've noticed they're much gentler than other breeds, too.

I agree. The temperment of draft horses is the best. They're so mellow, and they're extremely affectionate, too. Rosie loves to follow me around the pasture when I'm mending fences, and she loves stealing my tools when I put them down. Her favorite thing to grab is my cordless drill. She picks it up by the handle with her big lips, and she's learned to work the drill by pressing the trigger with her tongue. She loves walking around and turning the drill on and off. I guess she must like the way the vibration feels in her mouth. She never damages any of my tools. She just loves picking them up and playing with them, and amazingly when I tell her to put them down she does.

I also love the draft manner and mind. I have a Percheron/QH, a Perch/TB and a Belgian/TB. All three have their draft sided minds and manners and I love them for it. 100% Warm blooded breeds are for the young and foolish! IMO, of course.

I have a 4 horse hitch of Belgian draft horses, I would sure appreciate a draft horse section on this site. I use mine for logging and recreational driving. As far as I am concerned the only horses are draft horses
