Girth length Can't Post

Lazy me left my saddle laying in the barn aisle for a couple days and mice, birds, or something decided the neoprene girth would make good nesting material I guess. So I went to buy a new one today not realizing they come in different lengths. This is for a Simco western saddle and used on Arabs. My old one is 32" but I suppose it could be a little longer. Is there a proper way to measure for length I wonder? Does the learning never end?

What I love about going to a dressage show, an endurance race, or any other equine event is what you can learn. I also like to listen to folks with a lot of history.....something new always comes up.

I dont know of an exact science for girth fitting but here is what I use....

I use the largest one I can that does not interfere with movement. I tend to like the roping cinches so I dont have to tighten them so much and then run them up as high as I can so it does not rub against a leg.

Maybe others have a better way of fitting them.

Regards,
Mark

There is a formula for it about the barrol. But I like to buy the thing and try it on my horse and get my mother in law to try it out first. If she gets thrown its not a problem I just clean up the item and return it to the store and try it all over again. If mom can't get back up I help her onto the horse.

Maybe I should try that with my mother in law. Sly
