What do you have? Can't Post

What kind of equipment do you have for your horse operation? Talking about tractors, ATVs, RTVs, etc., etc.

Depends how many horses and how much room. We got along for years with a rake, a shovel, and a wheelbarrow.

I'm more advanced. I have two wheelbarrows and two rakes Wink

We have 7-10 horses, but keep many of them on leased pasture. I do wish I had some kind of power device (ATV or small tractor or toolcat) that would handle some of the hauling, carting, and arena raking chores for me.

Funny……

We have a much more modest set up. The only real labor saving device we have is the tractor and related attachments. We have a little JD 4510 with loader and box scraper. I made up a drag that I like out of scrap materials that is similar to a Kiser with water.

If we could ever stop spending money on new horses, I would be inclined to get an atv with a sprayer and a manure spreader.

Ron,
Isn’t that the truth……Sly

And at some level that’s not so bad if you know it going in. I think that the reining/working cowhorse industry benefits from the super rich bringing in money to support the events and trainers. If they did not contribute as much as they do, the cost would be prohibitive for a lot of folks.

Personally, I don’t mind being poor due to horses. Every time one of them kicks up their heels on a cool spring morning or nuzzles my pocket trying to find the carrot they are sure is there or pitches a half hearted fit because the horse in the other stall, 20’ away, is too close to their food, I think ‘These are the kinds of memories I want to think back on when I am too crippled up to get out of the wheel chair.’.

Regards,
Mark

Re: [Mark4510] What do you have? [In reply to] Can't Post

Speaking of crippled, when I "bought the farm" I quickly learned that I was soon going to walk myself to death. I'd walk 400 yards to repair a gate and realize I needed a drill. Everywhere I went I was pushing a wheelbarrow. I didn't check my fencelines as often as I should've.

So, I've had this electric buggy for 6 years (attachment). NO maintenance, just add water 5-6 times a year, charge it once a week, replace batteries every 4-5 years. Could not live without it. It has been abused unmercifully, pulls a 25 bushel manure spreader at least once a week, a 50 gallon pasture sprayer, a 4x8 trailer with hay, firewood, garbage, brush, dirt, gravel, etc. I've hauled a fishing boat and numerous teenagers a mile down the road and back many times. Indestructible and handy as a shirt pocket.

... and yes, that is a fully functional toilet in my front yard

Nice rig! Now I am jealous. I think of all the time I could save if I had one like that. In fact, just this morning I got all the way up to feed and clean and then remembered, I had to move the truck and trailer and had forgotten my keys. After feeding and cleaning I trudged all the way back to the house where I looked high and low for the keys. Only after some time did I realize the darn keys had been in my jacket pocket all the while. The buggy would have cut the commute time down but I think I really need something for my memory.......Sly

Hey Gates, how do you like that backhoe? My dad wants one and I am trying to get some reviews.

crehberg,

As far as I am concerned the only backhoe to have is a Case. I have had several. Spec. for spec. it can not be touched.
