Newer Manure Spreader Can't Post

Has anyone used the Newer Manure Spreader? No, I do not mean New Idea. newerspreader

I had never heard of them until coming across their site.

It is a small spreader to use frequently. We have 2 horses but may get 1 or 2 more (max) so the volume is about right IF we can spread often.

Thanks

ArAppy
I have never used one but I have seen one, Here is a quote from their web site that that would concern me-

"The Newer Spreader® works great for spreading STRAIGHT manure, manure with bedding such as sawdust, shavings or pelleted bedding and composted manure and a small amount of uneaten hay mixed in with the bedding and manure. For optimum results, do not spread straw bedding or large amounts of hay".

Sounds like the extra SIFTING of the manure (to prevent jams) would be time consuming. Have you looked at the ground driven, miniature manure spreaders that are on the market (, there are many brands ) They are a little bigger but should handle at least a half dozen horses. without worrying about how "STRAIGHT manure" you are dumping in. Just my opinion, like I said I have never used one. Here is a couple of links

Thanks Buck,

I was expecting to buy a small MillCreek or Wallenstein ground driven spreader. But I saw these and thought they might be another alternative. I have wondered about jams as well.

ArAppy, I think Buck gave you some good food for thought.

I have a couple of customers that purchased them and I have seen them in action.

From a mechanic's view ... the spreader is not going to like strings, hay, sticks, rocks etc...... the manure falls straight out the bottom.

Not trying to sell you a Mill Creek Spreader...... but here are some pic's

http://www.ranchhandsupply.com/pages/44/index.htm

I repair manure speaders and the number one thing I repair is rusted out metal ...... the spray in liner it a nice feature. Manure Spreaders have a hard life.

Tire Thread makes a big differance on ground driven spreaders.

Good luck on your search

I have a Newerspreader and happy with it's performance. It is all aluminum therefore no rust. The size of the spreader is about a large wheelberrow. Light weight and can be pushed around easily. We have two horses. We use ABM in the stall and pole peel in the paddocks. The manure is always mixed with some ABM, some pole peel, and occasionally gravel. It does excellent job in choping up the manure into smaller pieces and spread evenly.

Thanks everyone.

Cotton, have you had any jamming problems?

Have you had any maintenance issues?

We have occasional short stretches of below-freezing weather here. (I don't know what part of Oregon you are in so I don't know if you can answer this) Have you spread frozen manure?

I like the aluminum construction and maneuverability. The price is attractive, too.

No jamming problem. As I mentioned in my previous post that we have occasional pole peel, few pieces of hay, gravel about 1/2" size mixed in with the manure. They go through nicely.
No maintenance issues. The construction is pretty solid. All Aluminum is very nice. One can use it as a large wheelberrow, can be moved around easily.
We do have some short freezing weather here in north Oregon, the coldest we got down to last winter was 19 degrees F. I have never spread frozen manure. When it was that cold outside I simply pile up the manure and dispose it after the freeze is over.
