Suggestions on how to maintain Grass under PVC Fencing? Can't Post

We installed a perimeter PVC (Gardner) fence this year of roughly 1300 feet. Although I will be adding more next year (corrals, etc.), I'm interested in how people who have PVC fence maintain the grass under and around the posts - without having to use anything that can harm the posts. Do you just spray around them with Roundup? Or what do you use? I'd be interested in knowing.

Thanks!

We have several pastures with white vinyl fencing. I spray Roundup twice a year along the fence line and they stay pretty clean.

That's what I was thinking of doing. I was just curious as to whether anyone else had suggestions. Thanks for your help!

One thing to keep in mind when using Roundup for control of vegetation under fences is that the longer one uses it the tougher the weeds are that reappear. When it is first sprayed you are probably killing mainly fine stemmed perennial plants like grass. As the grass is killed more annual weeds begin to take hold in that bare area and the heavy stemmed weeds like pigweed, buttonweed, etc. start to show up.

Some of our PVC fences have been trimmed around for over 15 years with weed whips and even run into with the edge of mowers and there is no problem. Don't misunderstand, the PVC posts are scratched and even gouged, but no more than a wood post would be. If the PVC fence is a heavy walled, equine type fence, there should be no problem at all with using a weedeater around the posts.
