Trying to locate source for racing blinkers with goggles Can't Post

I have a horse that has repeatedly injured her eye from scratching on a tree in the pasture. My vet has suggested rather than keeping a fly mask on 24/7 since masks are rough material, that I try to locate racing blinkers, the kind that have the built in plastic goggles. Does anyone have an idea where I may be able to locate a used pair? I have hunted on the internet, but have not really had much success. It is difficult to see whether they have the built in goggles from the pictures. I don't know anything about blinkers, so I'm not sure if some come with and some come without the goggles.

Our vet gave us an old hood with cup-like blinders, from the harness track, when we had a horse with an eye injury. I just tried searching the net, too, and couldn't find anything either. It sure seems like the vet ought to know where to find something like that. It's frustrating, because they must be available somewhere, it's knowing the right place to look. I hope somebody has an answer for you.

That's funny you thought my vet would know where to get the goggles, because she asked me to let her know if I found a source. I did actually find one. www.horsehoods.com offers the original patented version called the "Pelling Protector-Pacifier" for $127.50.
I think my horse will look silly, but at least her eyes will be protected.

Did you order your horse hood yet? I went to the website and it looks good, but I was still curious whether there were others out there, so I Googled "horse hoods" and found a website, www.ehorseequipment.com , and they have one, the Champion Medical Blinder, horse size, for $42.75. It looks like it would work ok, I think it has clear plastic eye cups.

Hey thanks for the tip! The order is on its way. We horse owners have to save a buck anywhere we can, so I sure thank you for tracking that down. Hope I can help you out sometime.

You're right - you need to save a few bucks to pay the vet bill for this little go-round. I don't envy you there. You've certainly had your hands full. Hope you can get the itch under control.

Another place to get "odd" items is to call a track and talk to some of the guys incharge. Maybe get some racing stables number. They usually have equipment around and can tell you where to look or where to get used items. You could also probably find a WWI horse gas mask for fun.Crazy
