what too use for flooring? Can't Post

I am wondering what to use for flooring for livestock ( horses and calves)? My situation is I have just built a barn for 4h animals and am wanting some suggestions from some more experienced livestock owners. What would you use for flooring? If stone does the urine soak into the ground creating a un healthy enviorment? Is conrete to hard on animals? Just some suggestions please!

Hello Bryan, site looks pretty dormante at 1st but after a question is asked, there are alot of views but NO replys! ????? Anyway I'll give YOU a shot on U'r question on flooring! Where my horses stay is ole dirt floors with sand filled in...We use shaving & some folks use new type bedding(pellets) that we see in feed stores! The shaving will asorb the Mositure(urine) if cleaned daily but don't think U'll just drop shaving & leave it... gets real messy after a few days if U'r not cleaning wet spots/manure! Hard floors as concrete/stone is fine if YOU have a cushion(mats/shavings/bedding) & clean daily(U can get by ever couple of days)..OK OK, theres not a one answer FITS ALL HORSES...If YOU got a digger(PAWer) the hard floors aren't as good as dirt(OR are they) BUT hard floors(concrete/stone can be slicky & cause an accident...I suppose I should have ask, "Are horses gonna be kept up all the time or fed & let out?" If they are gonna be let out for 1/2 the day, I'd stick with dirt floors & shavings! Hope this hasn't clouded the question to much!
