Dust Control Can't Post

We are in the process of doing a makeover on the horse barn. At present the floor of the barn and stalls is very dark sand which produces a black covering over everything. I figure this has to be cured before even attempting to revamp anything else. I do not want to go the route of cement and wish to maintain expenses within reason. Does anyone have a suggestion for a low dust, low maintenance material for this type of application?

I personally don't have experience with dirt floor barns but was thinking that the highway departments use calcium on dirt roads. This might be something worth looking into. Also if you google dust control you get several options using polymer and wax surfaces. It will be interesting to see what you come up with.Smile

I would second CarMar. Short of covering the dirt with concrete or matts dust control can work well. Even then the dust is everywhere with feed, bedding etc. so I am not sure how much you can avoid.

You could also use large flake bedding in the stalls, it is low in dust, also rough paving bricks in the aisle way... I still have not found the answer to total dust control...But it helps to clean the surfaces down, and when it is dry out to wet down the aisle way/stalls, but then again this is my personal opinion and I have not dealt with sand as a bedding.
Hope this helps,
Dani
