Pete, We don’t use the pelleted bedding but we have seen our bedding costs go up. I am sure that fuel for getting the wood and shipping the bedding is a big driver. Lots of fuel costs all the way around. I really recommend a co op if you can get one put together for bedding, feed and supplements. The key is to not let too many people join (hard to do when it works really well and saves a ton of money), make sure everyone one (or a representative) is there on the day and time of the delivery and that they all bring cash. No checks. We buy much of our daily feed from local growers and they are usually very willing to work with you if they can plan a whole year around your buying needs. Its good for them and really good for the co op. Additionally, if you maintain a good working relationship you can usually get better quality feed on a year round basis. For sure I am a fan of a co op. Having said that, keeping them going is hard. Again, you will need an easy access place for a truck and trailer, a forklift is a help, everyone pays cash, limit the number of people in the coop regardless of how much they beg and if someone carries inventory they should be paid full retail in cash. My 2 cents….. Regards, Mark
